What the Text Diff Checker Does
The Text Diff Checker inspects two passages of text line-by-line and generates an exact visual breakdown of their differences. It uses an implementation of the classic Longest Common Subsequence (LCS) algorithm to detect which lines were inserted, which lines were deleted, and which lines remained untouched.
This tool is indispensable for software developers reviewing configuration file variations, writers comparing document revisions, students verifying edits, and legal teams reviewing revisions to contracts or policy agreements without uploading private documents to external servers.
How to Use the Text Diff Checker
- Input Texts: Paste your baseline draft into the "Original Text" box and your updated version into the "Modified Text" box.
- Adjust Comparison Rules: Optionally enable "Ignore leading & trailing whitespace" to prevent indentation changes from cluttering the diff, or "Ignore letter case" if capitalization changes are irrelevant.
- Run Comparison: Click the "Find Differences" button.
- Inspect Highlighting: Green lines prefixed with a
+represent additions in the modified version; red lines prefixed with a-represent deletions from the original draft.
Worked Example
Original:
server_port = 8080
enable_ssl = false
max_connections = 100
Modified:
server_port = 8080
enable_ssl = true
max_connections = 250
Diff Result:
Line 1: Unchanged (server_port = 8080)
- Removed: enable_ssl = false
+ Added: enable_ssl = true
- Removed: max_connections = 100
+ Added: max_connections = 250
